out of favour Socceroos defender Harry Souttar is reportedly set to leave Leicester City on loan for the 2024/25 season with several Championship clubs interested in the Australian’s services.
The Scot-turned-Aussie has endured a tough spell in Leicester blue so far but will be confident a fresh change of scenery can help turn his fortunes going forward.
Souttar joined the Foxes in January of 2023 after a breakout World Cup campaign in Qatar. The big defender agreed to a five-and-a-half-year deal worth roughly 15 million pounds, making him the most expensive Australian transfer recorded in history.
Despite the rapid rise, Souttar never really managed to impose himself at Leicester, limited to 12 games in his debut season. The situation only worsened for Souttar the following season as the defender was left out of most matchday squads in Leicester’s first return to the EFL Championship since 2012.
The defender, who was the talk of the Socceroos in Qatar, now found himself at a career crossroads, unable to get a look in for Enzo Maresca’s Championship side, recording only a measly 98 minutes played in three matches.
Whilst there were talks about Souttar potentially staying at the King Power to try and break back into the Foxes’ lineup for season 24/25 after the departure of Maresca to Chelsea, the sensible decisions seem to have been made by the player to leave on loan in search of more consistent game time.
According to reports, the Championship clubs that have shown interest in taking Souttar on loan are the bottom half Stoke City and freshly relegated Sheffield United.
