EFL Championship: Coventry City's Ben Sheaf Replacement | by Junescout | Jun, 2024 | MediumMark Robins has officially named his new Coventry City captain for the 2024/25 campaign as Ben Sheaf, which will be widely welcomed by Sky Blues fans.

The confirmation that the influential midfielder will wear the armband this season might just allay fears about the player’s future, with the 26-year-old having been the subject of speculation linking him with interest from other clubs this summer. The likes of newly promoted Ipswich Town, Fulham and relegated Luton have been reported as being admirers of the former Arsenal prospect.

Asked by CoventryLive if he’s made the captaincy official yet, Robins revealed in his first pre-match press conference of the new season: “No, not yet but Ben Sheaf will captain the team this season.”

Asked how he’s grown as a man and player over his time with the Sky Blues to make him the perfect successor to Liam Kelly, the manager said: “He leads by example and he’s got a voice, with people listening to him and talking to him, asking him about the way that he conducts himself and goes about his business.

“He’s really professional, goes through everything to the nth degree and tries to make sure that everything he does helps him to be as successful as he can, so if you have got that in the building then you have definitely got people who will look at that and follow that. And I think if you asked the other players they would say that he’s a top professional.”EFL Championship: Coventry City's Ben Sheaf Replacement | by Junescout | Jun, 2024 | Medium
