Newcastle United had a late PSR scare at the end of June but managed to raise the necessary funds to avoid a potential points deduction.

Now, the Magpies can look forward and bring in new additions as they look to assemble a squad capable of returning to the Champions League.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring in defenders and Newcastle have identified Marc Guehi as one of their prime targets.

However, if they fail to get that deal over the line, they’ll move for his teammate.

Newcastle could sign Joachim Anderson

According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle could turn to Joachim Anderson if they fail to agree a deal to sign Marc Guehi.

The Magpies have been trying for Guehi over the last couple of weeks but are still yet to satisfy Palace’s demands of around £60m.

Their initial bid worth £50m was knocked back by Palace so it’s thought if a move for Anderson opens up, attention will be turned toward the Denmark international instead – who is thought to be valued at around £40m.

Joachim Anderson statistics

If Newcastle are to move for Anderson, it’d be an equally promising addition when you consider his FBref statistics.

The 28-year-old ranks in the top six per cent for clearances per 90 compared to his positional peers around Europe.

Further, he sits in the top four per cent for expected assisted goals, evincing his playmaking ability from deep.

Fulham are also trying to sign Anderson, who has been labelled ‘outstanding’ (We Are Palace) and had a £20m bid rejected earlier this week.
