Leeds United have positioned themselves to sign Jonathan Rowe with both their main rivals unable to move forward on a deal, according to Santi Aouna.
The Foot Mercato journalist reported via X on 13 August that Marseille are currently “blocked” after making an official bid for the young forward as they won’t overpay on the deal.
Norwich City are said to want €15million [£12.8m] to sell the 21-year-old and AS Monaco have now entered the race.
The second Ligue 1 side have already held talks with Rowe’s representatives but they can’t yet make any “concrete” progress on signing him either without first offloading a non-EU player.
Leeds United want Crysencio Summerville replacement
If Daniel Farke is going to get his man it looks like the time might be now or never with the competition tied up with other concerns.
It had emerged via TEAMtalk on 12 August that the Whites were readying a new official offer to outbid Marseille so perhaps the club are taking their opportunity seriously while it exists.
Crysencio Summerville’s departure to West Ham was not entirely unexpected but came later in the window than the club would surely have chosen, and didn’t bring in the mega-fee fans were hoping for.
His goals might have been able to swing the dramatic 3-3 draw with Portsmouth on the opening day in Leeds United’s favour so some sort of capable replacement is key.
Rowe could be that after 12 Championship goals in his first campaign as a regular, and if he can step into Summerville’s shoes for somewhere around half the price of the Dutchman’s sale it wouldn’t be a bad swap all in all.
Farke wants three signings to challenge for promotion before the window shuts [The Athletic, 5 August] and time is rapidly running out, but if he can secure the Canaries wide man sooner rather than later attention can turn to landing the other two.
In other Leeds United news, a senior Whites ace has caused suspicions that he is not fully committed and could make a sudden exit.
