Don Goodman has criticised Jonathan Rowe for his conduct at Norwich City amid speculation he is wanted by Leeds United.
Leeds continue to be linked with Rowe and are now well positioned to sign him as Marseille look out of the picture [Santi Aouna, 13 August].
Amid the intense speculation, the 21-year-old pulled out of Norwich’s squad for last week’s Championship opener against Oxford United.
While Goodman is a fan of Rowe and believes he would be a good signing for Leeds, he does not like the way he has gone about things.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Goodman said: “I really like Jonathan Rowe, but I don’t like the fact he pulled out of Norwich’s game last weekend. I really, really don’t like that.
“He had a bad injury that hampered the second half of last season for him, but he’s a talented, talented boy.”
Leeds United must pursue Norwich’s Jonathan Rowe
There is no denying that a player deciding against playing for his side when fit is not acceptable.
Leeds supporters know that all too well after what we saw from Willy Gnonto at Thorp Arch this time last year.
Put simply, in any other walk of life, if you refuse to work when being paid by your employer then you are in breach of contract.
All that said, Leeds should still pursue a deal for the very talented Norwich gem. The Canaries are after an eight-figure fee, but United have cash to spend.
It is not ideal having to spend half of the Crysencio Summerville windfall on Rowe, but there’s a gap to be filled and he can fill it.
With two-and-a-half weeks of the window to go, let’s hope this is one that is soon over the line.
