Leeds United have been linked with a move for Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo as they bid to bolster their attacking options in the final two weeks of the transfer window. A Football Scotland report states the Whites are considering making a move for Matondo.
The Wales international is expected to leave the Scottish giants alongside the likes of Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi before the market shuts. Rangers are looking to offload players following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Matondo moved to Ibrox back in 2022 following a spell in Belgium on loan at Cercle Brugge from German outfit Schalke but he has found regular first team football hard to come by. Injuries have also curtailed his first team involvement.
The 23-year-old, capped 12 times by his country, clocked up 31 appearances across all competitions for the Gers last season, scoring six goals and contributing four assists. United have previously been linked with Matondo and are reportedly open to a permanent transfer as well as a loan with future purchase option. Matondo still has two years left on his Rangers contract.
It is no secret that United are in the market for attacking reinforcements, with Georginio Rutter on the brink of joining Brighton and Hove Albion in a £40m deal. They have already sold Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United for £25m after the Hammers activated a clause in the Dutchman’s contract.
Whites boss Daniel Farke, whose side visit West Bromwich Albion tomorrow lunchtime, has expressed his desire to bring in two new attacking players to boost their hopes of pushing for promotion. Norwich City forward Jonathan Rowe is on their transfer radar and they have also been credited with an interest in Stoke City’s Million Manhoef.
