With the transfer window now entering its closing stretch, Sunderland are looking to do business to back boss Regis Le Bris, but they will also have to guard against losing key players.

Winger Jack Clarke, who has already made two goal contributions in the two Championship matches his team have played so far this season, is expected to be in demand.

Clarke found the back of the net 15 times from down the wing last term, missing just six matches due to an ankle injury.

He has been linked with several clubs over the course of the window, including his former side Leeds United.

Sunderland though are clear about Clarke’s status.

It is suggested that sources at the club have said ‘it will take’ a huge offer to convince them to sell Clarke this month.

Sunderland do not want to lose the attacker and are going to make it as difficult as possible for sides to take him.
