Portsmouth and Luton Town are reportedly showing a serious interest in signing West Bromwich Albion winger Jed Wallace before the window slams shut on Friday.

The two Championship newbies, Portsmouth recently promoted from League One and Luton relegated from the Premier League, are eager to add experience in attack. Wallace, who recently came back into the fold at The Hawthorns after a brief spell on the sidelines through injury, is said to be a priority target for both clubs.

That’s according to the usually reliable West Brom Xtra, with a report late on Wednesday night suggesting Pompey and Luton are “heavily interested” in acquiring Wallace’s services. A romantic return could theoretically be on the cards, then, as the winger started his career at Fratton Park.

It awaits to be seen if Albion would sanction a departure for Wallace, the club’s captain since last August. The Wolverhampton Wanderers man has scored 12 goals and made 13 assists in 97 West Brom appearances since signing from Millwall in the summer of 2022.

Wallace still has just under two years left to run on his contract at The Hawthorns, meaning the Baggies are in no rush to sell. A significant bid could be tempting, however, as it would provide funds to balance the books in regards to the EFL’s profit and sustainability regulations.Portsmouth and Luton are reportedly keen on signing West Brom captain Jed Wallace.

As a free addition, Wallace, who has a current market value of £2.5 million as per Transfermarkt, would gain West Brom pure profit. And with Celtic winger Mikey Johnston imminently set to arrive through the door in a £3 million deal, there’s already a replacement.
