John Wenham was not surprised by the transfer fee involved in Oliver Skipp’s move from Tottenham to Leicester City.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the midfielder will soon be one of the Foxes’ best players.
Skipp left boyhood club Tottenham to join Leicester this summer, with Steve Cooper’s side paying £20million plus £5million in add-ons to sign the Englishman (via Fabrizio Romano, 19 August).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims this was a fair price.
“I think Skipp will be a regular for Leicester City,” Wenham said.
“He just needs a club where he is going to get a regular run of games. I think he is a decent player, I wouldn’t have been against keeping him as a squad player.
“I don’t think he lets you down and he can fill in across the pitch. When Spurs have tried to sign homegrown players there has always been a premium price attached.
“Therefore, I don’t think Skipp should be any different and I wasn’t surprised by the fee at all. I don’t think it will be long until he is one of their best players.”
Oliver Skipp leaves Tottenham to join Leicester City
Skipp spent much of his time over the past few years on the bench at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as out on loan in the Championship with Norwich City.
Therefore, a few eyebrows might have been raised when the £20million-plus transfer fee emerged.
