Fans and pudnits were quietly confident going into Town’s return to the second tier, but nobody expected them to start as well as they have, not least Broadhead, who admitted that avoiding the drop was their initial aim going into the campaign.
“We didn’t really have an expectation. I think the main thing was to stay in the league at first.
“We need to stay humble, put our heads down and perform.”
Of course, Ipswich were never going to come up to make up the numbers. Their performances have been exceptional, particularly at Portman Road, where they’ve scored 19 goals in just six games.
Broadhead always knew that Kieran McKenna would encourage them to play on the front foot, but he didn’t expect them to be as clinical in front of goal as they have been.
“The way that we play at the moment is creating a lot of chances for the strikers,” he explained.
“That’s what we want and that’s our aim, to score goals, but I didn’t expect it!
“That’s what the fans want. To perform and create goals makes everyone happy. Hopefully we can keep doing that.”
