Goodison Park insiders have described the financial situation as “mind-blowing”, according to a report in the Daily Mail.Farhad Moshiri with Everton badge

The report on pages 80-81 of the newspaper’s print edition on Friday (6 September) shared how the club has debts of around £600million plus regular interest payments, with Farhad Moshiri desperately seeking a sale of the Toffees.

Deals with 777 Partners and the Friedkin Group have collapsed in the past few months, while John Textor, a minority shareholder in Crystal Palace, has emerged as the most likely candidate to take the reigns at Goodison Park since entering into exclusivity talks with Moshiri, though he must first sell his stake with the Eagles.

Everton need takeover sooner rather than later

Sean Dyche has endured a horrendous start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, Everton find themselves at the foot of the league table heading into the international break after a run of three consecutive defeats.

Given the well-documented financial constraints at the Blues, Kevin Thelwell has worked well within the boundaries to provide Dyche with eight new additions this summer. Thus far, though, the club’s senior players have failed to perform in the opening stages of the season with the risible collapse at home to Bournemouth a low point.

It seems that the Goodison Park farewell campaign will be rife with struggle, the debt is piling up at the Toffees and the takeover is on hold with Textor unable to pursue his purchase of the club until he sells his 45 per cent stake in Crystal Palace.

The Everton fans are worried and rightfully so, the long-term future of the club under new ownership is bright and the move to the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium will be a vital financial component to secure their future.Farhad Moshiri with Everton badge

Until then, the Blues are in purgatory watching their financial situation worsen and praying for a saviour for one of the most decorated sides in English football.
