49ers Enterprises criticized for lack of transparency in Leeds’ summer transfer decisions

Last year, 49ers Enterprises completed a total takeover of Leeds United. Furthermore, they nearly had the club earn promotion back to the Premier League in Year 1 of their ownership after being minority owners since 2018.

While last year ended in heartbreak, there’s now criticism aimed at the new owners for failing to sign a No. 10 even after manager Daniel Farke made it clear he wanted one.

leeds have lost midfielder Archie Gray and forwards Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville to Premier League clubs. As a result, the team needs to rebuild quickly to avoid a third straight season in the Championship.

Nonetheless, one journalist believes 49ers Enterprises is failing to hold their end of the bargain with supporters after failing to find the No. 10 that Farke desperately wanted for this team.

49ers Enterprises not fulfilling promises

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth stated that the club and ownership should live up to their promise of transparency and clarify some of the decisions made during the transfer window.

“If you’re asking supporters to read the accounts and draw their own summations and conclusions, I don’t think it’s quite the transparency that we were led to believe was the desire of the 49ers,” Smyth said on the ‘Inside Elland Road’ podcast (h/t Give Me Sport). “I think it could do with somebody coming out and saying whatever the case was.

“Were there targets that you as a club thought would be adequate and Daniel [Farke] passed up the opportunity? Were there targets that you were both aligned on, both the club and Daniel, but you couldn’t do it because of profit and sustainability? Were there targets that you were all aligned on, but in the end, they decided they didn’t want to play in the Championship? What was the case? Because we know the manager wanted one.”

Leeds will need to navigate these next few months and remain within striking distance of winning the Championship or at least second place for that automatic promotion when the January transfer window rolls around.

If The Whites find the No. 10 Farke wants and bolster other parts of the squad for the second half of the season, 49ers Enterprises will show that they have heard the concerns of those who cover and support the club.
