Harry Maguire has admitted that he could quit Manchester United in January.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the defender confirmed he could leave in search of regular first team football following links to Everton and West Ham.
Maguire joined Manchester United in a huge £80 million deal from Leicester City in 2019 and initially continued his impressive form, before things began to go downhill.
The 30-year-old has fallen massively out of form in recent seasons and was even stripped of his captaincy. He has now made made three appearances and only one start this season.
Maguire looked set to join West Ham for £30 million in the summer before the deal collapsed and he was forced to stay at Old Trafford.
However, the England international has now admitted that he won’t be afraid to leave the club if he remains out of Erik ten Hag’s plans.
“I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month. If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things,” Maguire told the Daily Mail.
“It’s not my decision whether I start the next game for United or not. In a couple of weeks, I’ll go back and find out.
“I have belief in my ability and it’s been tough. I want to play games and feel important to the club.
“At the moment, I haven’t been playing anywhere near as much as I would like. That is the bottom line.”
Maguire to Everton?
Everton had briefly been linked with Maguire prior to his failed move to West Ham, while various reports have since claimed they could go in with a bid in January.
Manchester United are still likely to demand around £30m for the defender and – unless Everton’s takeover is completed – it would be a surprise to see them fork out the cash
A loan deal could be the way forward for the Toffees, while they could even include an option-to-buy.
A move to Goodison Park could go one of two ways for Maguire – he will either rediscover his form and really impress or he will quickly flop and spend his loan spell on the bench.
Given his quality for Leicester City, it is arguably worth taking the risk to get him in – especially if they don’t have to pay the £30m just yet.
