Paul Mitchell has been heavily criticised for his first transfer window as Director of Football on Tyneside, after failing to land Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, and also experiencing difficulty in signing a new winger.

Now – however – Newcastle are looking to put things right in January…

Newcastle make contact to sign Kevin Zenon

A story from Boca Noticias now states that Newcastle have already approached Boca Juniors No.22 Kevin Zenon about a move to St James’ Park in January.

The Argentinian news outlet believe Juan Roman Riquelme – President of Boca Juniors – is aware of the situation, and is desperate to keep the Argentina U23 international away from the Magpies.

Boca Noticias add that Zenon has a €15m (£12.7m) release clause written into his contract with Boca Juniors, meaning Newcastle can immediately enter into discussions over personal terms with the 23-year-old if that amount of cash is put on the table upfront.Boca oficializó la llegada de Kevin Zenón: «Los sueños están para cumplirse» - Diario Río Negro

Who is the Argentine?

Many Newcastle fans will surely be unaware of Zenon, given his lack of experience and status across Europe at this stage of his career – if that is the case, let’s take a look at what he can do.

Firstly, the South American is predominantly a left winger, having made 27 appearances in that position so far this season, scoring four goals while also providing seven assists.

Like a typical No.7, the Boca Juniors wonderkid loves to take defenders on, and use his pace to open up opposition defences.

However, Zenon can also play on the right – making one appearance in that position – as well as in the centre of the pitch, where he has played four times this Boca oficializó la llegada de Kevin Zenón: «Los sueños están para cumplirse» - Diario Río Negro

The Argentina can also be used at left-back if need be.

Boca Noticias frame Zenon as the current gem of Boca Juniors – a footballing giant who have previously produced the likes of Carlos Tevez – so for a sum of just £12.7m, Newcastle could secure themselves a bargain in January.
