There’s a big difference between trying to win and not trying to lose, and the Philadelphia Eagles may have found that out in the worst possible way.

Vic Fangio’s defensive play-calling on the final drive left plenty to be desired, and as expected, it led to a game-losing touchdown.

Granted, the loss could be tracked further back to Kellen Moore’s decision to throw on 3rd-and-3 instead of just handing the ball off to Saquon Barkley.

But still, Fangio and the defense didn’t do their job.

Per Rob Gronkowski, that’s not much of a surprise.

In his latest appearance on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show,’ he ripped the Eagles for playing prevent defense, which he deemed the worst defense ever created in the National Football League.

He pointed out that we’ve seen things like this happen over and over, as the safeties are playing way back to avoid being burned, but the offense still marches down the field and gets into a rhythm with those small plays.

At the end of the day, the Eagles did so many things wrong to lose a game that they already had in the bank.

Playing not to lose usually leads to losing.

The Eagles were uber-aggressive on offense and extremely passive on defense, and that strange approach left them empty-handed.

It’s still early in the season, and they’re 1-1, but this team will need to assess its decision-making late in games, which was an issue with Nick Sirianni last season as well.
