In three short seasons, Britain Covey has gone from an undersized punt returner to one of the best in the game, to now a key offensive player for the Philadelphia Eagles. Covey only has 10 catches in his career, but due to the current injury to All-Pro A.J. Brown, the former Utah product could be seeing plenty of more reps on the offense. Especially as the team continues to try and find competent role players in their offense. Covey’s skill set matches something similar to many undersized slot receivers overall like Wes Welker and Julian Edelman. Edelman himself is someone that Covey wants to emulate.

“It’s funny because you haven’t played yet and maybe people view you as a tier below but like I don’t do that,” Covey said on Thursday. “You know, like everyone compares me to a Cole Beasley or [Julian] Edelman as someone who could be that [a great slot WR] ,and in my mind I am. So when you get an opportunity you try to show it’s not your a tier below. No, that’s who I am. That’s who I can be.”

Covey’s improved competence is something that can help the Birds move forward throughout the season. So long as he continues to help the offense outside of his punt return skills.
