Fulham host Newcastle United in a 3pm Saturday kick-off this weekend with the Magpies looking to extend their unbeaten run and go top of the Premier League.Alan Shearer expects a tough game for Newcastle against Fulham on Saturday as he tries to predict the result

It may only be for a matter of hours but a win at Craven Cottage would see Newcastle in the premier position in the league until Arsenal face Manchester City on Sunday – unless Newcastle score a bagful of goals against Fulham, there’s no real likelihood of the Magpies staying top after that game unless Arsenal win and we have a superior goal difference.

Scoring plenty of goals would be nice, but in all honesty, any kind of win will do away from home.

Newcastle’s form on the road last season wasn’t the best so we’ll take wins wherever and however we can get them. It’s still too early in the season to be panicking about the performances, but as long as we keep seeing improvement then we’ll be happy. We’ve no doubt it will click again soon.

Given Newcastle’s excellent record at Craven Cottage, you’d think that a Newcastle win would be the most likely outcome, but former Toon striker Alan Shearer isn’t so confident as he made his prediction for Metro.

We expected better from you, Mr Shearer, although erring on the side of caution to avoid disappointment is an understandable stance to take, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that that’s what he’s doing.

You have to go back to 2017 for Newcastle’s last defeat at Fulham and we are optimistic that the streak won’t end on Saturday.Alan Shearer expects a tough game for Newcastle against Fulham on Saturday as he tries to predict the result

Of course, every time I jumped off the fence last season and predicted a win for Newcastle I was wrong, so I absolutely promise that if I’m wrong this time, I’ll never do it again, I just want to spread some positivity after a summer of negativity.
