Newcastle United may have lost their unbeaten run at Fulham last weekend, but you can be sure Pep Guardiola will be taking the Magpies very seriously when Manchester City come to St James’ Park on Saturday.

The Spaniard is a big fan of what Eddie Howe has achieved on Tyneside so far, and he’s not the only one. Even though United are yet to find their best free-flowing football this term, their reputation precedes them, with rivals managers across the Premier League usually quick to praise Howe’s men.

“We watched so many games of Newcastle against teams who try to build up and play. They just got steamrolled really by an aggressive, athletic and powerful team – and today I thought we caused them a lot of problems.

“We get punished for, and the biggest mistake is not an individual one, it’s for five minutes mentally when the opposition gets a man sent off. You take a breath, drop your energy level a bit thinking it might become a bit easier, but it’s not easy – and we got punished for that.”
