Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler and Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo were both shown red cards during last Sunday’s fiery 2-2 draw between the two sides at the Amex Stadium
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has revealed he has escaped a touchline ban despite being shown a red card against Nottingham Forest.
The 31-year-old Albion tactician was given his marching orders late in the second half following his furious reaction to Morgan Gibbs-White’s controversial lunge on Joao Pedro, which crocked the Brazilian.
But Hurzeler, who earlier this week was charged with ‘acting in an improper manner’ claims he has now escaped with just a fine following private talks with PGMOL chief Howard Webb after stepping onto the field of play.
The German confirmed on Thursday that he would be on the touchline for Chelsea’s trip to Brighton this weekend after providing a sufficient response to the charge. Hurzeler explained: “I know what the fine will be and I know I will be on the sidelines against Chelsea.”
He added: “In the beginning I didn’t know what I got the red card for and then I talked to Howard Webb. In the end I heard I got the red card for stepping onto the pitch.
“I think if you give a red card for this, you have to ban a lot of coaches, because it happens in emotional situations in the game. I was protecting my player, it was a hard tackle. I also have to learn how fast you can get a red card in this league.”
Asked how his conversation with Webb went, Hurzeler said: “The positive thing is they are very open, he listens to me and gives me a clear explanation. It’s important that we have a respectful relationship and the exchange with Howard was very respectful.”
