Tomás Araújo is the latest name emerging on the Primeira Liga scene from Benfica’s side after João Neves’ move to PSG in the summer.

The 22-year-old is proving to be a versatile and reliable presence at the back, prompting many a Premier League side to keep an eye on him.

And now, Spurs have entered the mix.

Tottenham keeping tabs on Tomás Araújo

As reported by TeamTalk, Tottenham are eyeing up a move for Benfica defender Tomás Araújo, who has also been linked to Arsenal and Chelsea and was pursued by Crystal Palace in the summer.

The Benfica academy graduate, capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, has emerged as one of the first names on the Águias team sheet this season, having first made a senior appearance for them in 2021.

Araújo is valued by Transfermarkt at €7 million, though Benfica are expected to demand a fee in the region of €20m. The Portugal U21 international’s current Benfica contract, fetching him €580,000 per year, is set to run until June 2028.

Tottenham’s interest in Araújo is understandable given the recent links of Cristian Romero to Real Madrid, which would leave behind a vacuum for someone to fill.

Of course, Tottenham also would not want to pay over the odds for any player under Daniel Levy, which is a case possible here given the interest of multiple London clubs.

If Palace lose Marc Guéhi in January or next summer, and granted they remain in the topflight, they would be the best option for Araújo for Premier League minutes right after arriving in England.
