Kieran McKenna has been named the Championship Manager of the Month for September.

The Blues won four and drew one of the five league matches played during September, continuing an excellent start to the season.

After being one of four managers nominated for the award – along with Cardiff’s Erol Bulut, Sunderland’s Tony Mowbray and Hull’s Liam Rosenior – the voting panel settled on Kieran, who sees the prize as a reward for the hard work of all at the Club during the opening weeks of the season.

“It’s nice recognition for everyone at the Club for a strong start to the season,” Kieran said.

“When anyone wins Manager of the Month, it’s really a reflection of the team and the team’s reflection of many people doing so well at the Football Club, including, of course, the supporters for their role in that.

“We hope to build on this and keep progressing.”

Town began September by coming back from 2-0 down to beat Cardiff City 3-2 at Portman Road, before 1-0 away wins at both Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton.

Then it was a 4-3 home victory over Blackburn Rovers, before September was completed by a 1-1 draw away at Huddersfield, which saw Town dig deep to equalise late at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The month also included an impressive 3-2 victory over Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.
