When Kellen Moore was hired to be the offensive coordinator and play-caller for the Philadelphia Eagles, the belief was that he would bring many of his coaching principles to a team in desperate need of it. One of those principles was the use of pre-snap, and post-snap motion to move defenses and get them in opportune situations.
The issue? Through the first four games of the regular season, the changes Moore seemed ready to bring haven’t shown up. And it leaves a very obvious culprit at the top of it.
Nick Sirianni gave up major influence on the offense after 2023’s disaster of an ending. Despite being a top-10 group overall, inconsistencies and turnovers dragged the group down and forced Philadelphia’s head coach into giving up major power overall.
But as the 2024 regular season has gone on, Philadelphia’s impressive 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers on opening day saw impressive principles from the offense has been pushed aside for Sirianni’s brand of football. Philadelphia has used motion at just the 19th most rate in the NFL – an increase from last season, but still an unacceptable amount for an offense struggling to find consistency.
It’s clear what the problem in Philadelphia is. Sirianni’s collaborative approach to coaching is hurting his team and it’s why he needs to get his hands off the offense as soon as possible
