During the last international break, we covered the Spanish media falling in love with Mateo Joseph.
The Leeds United forward had impressed playing for the country’s U21 team and had managed to outshine Samu Omorodion for the national side.
Jospeh had impressed so much that there was even talk of the 20-year-old being pinpointed and prepared to potentially play for Spain’s senior team at the next World Cup.
Despite a huge pool of talent, there’s been a worry in the Spanish media that there’s not a lot available in terms of a striker for the future, so the Leeds United youngster was seen an exciting new option.
Well, he’s just sent all of that off into the stratosphere.
Joseph scored a hat-trick for Spain as they beat Kazakhstan on Thursday evening.
He’s being celebrated across the Spanish media, and down in Seville the transfer eyes are opening.
Victor Orta links to Mateo Joseph
Estadio Deportivo, the region’s sport newspaper runs a headline saying the Leeds United player is ‘a signing to keep in mind’.
They refer to his Transfermarkt valuation of €1.2m, as if to suggest there’s a bargain there to be had. However, there’s clearly no way the Championship club would sell for even 10x that.
Victor Orta is in charge of transfers at Sevilla, but despite the local media getting excited, knowing the sports director played a role in taking Mateo Jospeh to Leeds United in the first place, this one may already be out of reach for the Spanish club.
Mateo Joseph has a contract with Leeds United lasting until 2028, and is represented by the Wasserman group.
