Wolves raised a lot of eyebrows when they completed the signing of Enzo Gonzalez during the summer.

The 18-year-old Paraguayan left his boyhood club of Libertad in a £5 million move which took him to Molineux.

Before this move was finalised, the furthest Gonzalez had travelled was to Brazil. Now he finds himself looking to find his feet in Wolverhampton.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Wolves are handling Gonzalez like a fragile object and taking his integration slow.

The Athletic have spoken to Gary O’Neil who has admitted that Gonzalez will take time, and has lots to work on.

“He still needs a lot of work, as expected,” said O’Neil. “People might read that and think it is a negative, but it isn’t, it’s just where he is and to be expected.

“He is a young lad and the Premier League is a top level. So he needs a lot of work and we’re trying to get it into him as quickly as we can.

“He’s enjoying being around and I’m sure he will have an impact.”

Long-term vision of Wolves

Gonzalez was signed quite clearly with the future in mind as he is a raw talent.Wolverhampton Wanderers Unveil New Signing Enso Gonzalez

We imagine Wolves will have seen the success Brighton have had through signing youngsters from South America, and will be hoping to replicate it.

Gonzalez was tipped as the next Paraguayan to make the move to Europe, but it is thought many experts were shocked his move came so soon.

With a season or two to develop and adapt, we expect Wolves could look back on the deal as a bargain.
