Alabama Rises in Rankings After Victory Over Auburn
Alabama football earned a boost in the latest rankings following its thrilling victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday. The Crimson Tide climbed two spots in both the Coaches Poll and the Associated Press (AP) rankings, securing the No. 11 position in both polls. However, these rankings are separate from what the College Football Playoff committee may decide in the coming weeks.
Alabama’s rise was aided not only by its win but also by key losses from Miami and Clemson. Meanwhile, South Carolina, which defeated Clemson on Saturday, moved up to No. 12 in the Coaches Poll and No. 13 in the AP rankings. Clemson, on the other hand, dropped five places to No. 17 in the Coaches Poll and six spots to No. 18 in the AP rankings.
Miami suffered its second loss of the season against Syracuse, leading to a fall to No. 14 in both polls.
At the top of the rankings, Oregon retained its No. 1 spot in both polls after defeating Washington. Following a surprising upset by Michigan, Ohio State slid to No. 8 in the Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the AP rankings, allowing several teams to climb higher.
Texas ascended to the No. 2 spot, with Penn State following at No. 3. Both teams are set to compete in their respective conference championship games next weekend.
Notre Dame advanced to No. 4 in both polls after a victory over Southern Cal, while Georgia, which narrowly defeated Georgia Tech on Friday, rounded out the top five. Tennessee claimed the No. 6 spot.
Other notable rankings include SMU at No. 7 in the AP Poll and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll, Indiana at No. 9 in both, and Boise State rounding out the top 10.
