Colin Chong issues verdict on behind-the-scenes chaos at Everton

Colin Chong, the interim chief executive of Everton has stated how taxing the job is after replacing Denise Barrett-Baxendale at the helm.

The stadium development director at the club was handed the role on a temporary basis and took over a day after a number of boardroom members parted ways.

While admitting that it is a dream job, a lot of factors that go under the radar have been elaborated by Chong.

Discussing the chaos with Everton: Nothing Will Be the Same, as transcribed by Liverpool Echo, he said, “So I was aware of what was going on and obviously when the announcement came that the guys had left Mr Moshiri and the chairman asked to speak to me. They had known that I was always the preferred person to step in, purely because of that relationship with all the work activities going on, and literally was asked to step in the following day that the board left.everton

“It is not a decision you take lightly either, it is one of these roles that is a dream job, to be honest. In football there is no better job in the world and there is only 20 of them [chief executive positions at Premier League clubs]. But it is hard work and the previous board had worked really hard as well and people don’t see how hard people do work behind the scenes at a football club… it is physically hard, mentally it is hard, you are spinning plates, and you are also reliant so much on the human factor as well, just how players perform on a matchday has a massive impact on everything else that we do.”

No organisation

Currently, it looks like nobody is on the same page behind the scenes at Goodison Park and that is worrisome.

There’s already so much uncertainty over the new ownership at the club and the team’s performances on the field of play have not been ideal either.

It remains to be seen how long Chong is in the role and what sort of changes he can bring about in the time he is in that position.

He can be a status quo manager or look to make a few sweeping changes to help sort out the mess and make the club an institution the fans can relate to and love.

The new owners may have different ideas for a chief executive but if he impresses in his short stint, they may decide to give him the job.

There are a lot of moving pieces currently behind the scenes, so it’s hard to predict what exactly will happen at the club.

In other Everton news, a condition has now emerged on Sean Dyche being sacked amid trouble behind the scenes at Goodison Park.
