The University of Miami (UM) is set to host several high-profile transfer portal players this weekend, including two former West Coast cornerbacks and a star wide receiver from Florida International University (FIU). According to reports from 247 Sports, Washington State cornerback Ethan O’Connor is among the visitors. O’Connor recently completed a redshirt freshman season, during which he recorded four interceptions, returning them for 84 yards, including one touchdown.

O’Connor, who earlier visited Oklahoma, allowed 32 receptions on 62 targets for 406 yards (12.7 yards per catch) and three touchdowns during the 2024 season. Despite those numbers, his four interceptions contributed to a strong 62.7 passer rating when targeted, showcasing his defensive prowess. The 6-foot-1 cornerback, a three-star recruit from the Anaheim area, graduated in the Class of 2023.

Another cornerback expected on UM’s campus this weekend is Emmanuel Karnley, formerly of Arizona. Like O’Connor, Karnley was a three-star recruit from California high school football, playing at Walnut Creek. In 2024, he allowed 22 receptions on 43 targets for 288 yards and four touchdowns while notching 16 tackles. However, his coverage statistics—no interceptions and a 103.6 passer rating allowed—indicate room for improvement. Karnley previously visited Mississippi earlier in the week and is considering his options after redshirting in 2023. Rated as the 98th-best cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class by 247 Sports, he could be a valuable addition to Miami’s secondary.

FIU standout receiver Kris Rivers is also among the players visiting Miami this weekend. Rivers has emerged as a top target after a remarkable season leading the Sun Belt in receiving yards and touchdown receptions. Originally a no-star recruit, Rivers walked on at Memphis as a cornerback before transitioning to wide receiver at FIU. He has since flourished, tallying 62 receptions for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024. If he commits to UM, Rivers would likely replace Xavier Restrepo, who is heading to the NFL, as Miami’s premier slot receiver.

Joining the list of visitors is LSU wideout CJ Daniels. A redshirt junior, Daniels caught 42 passes for 480 yards during the 2024 season. He began his collegiate career at Liberty before transferring to LSU and is now exploring new opportunities through the portal.

Looking ahead to next week, UM is expected to host Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton, according to On3.com. Singleton, who visited Auburn and Mississippi earlier this week, has also drawn interest from Texas. This season, he hauled in 56 receptions for 754 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to rushing 21 times for 131 yards and another score. His versatility and production make him an intriguing option for the Hurricanes.

In addition to Singleton, several other players are scheduled to visit UM next week, including Liberty center Jordan White, Mississippi offensive lineman Kavion Broussard, and Alabama receiver Caleb Odom. Odom transitioned to wide receiver after playing tight end in high school and recorded seven receptions for 65 yards during his freshman year with the Crimson Tide.

However, UM’s tight end target, Micah Riley of Auburn, has canceled his visit to Miami and committed to Texas A&M. Despite this setback, the Hurricanes remain active in the transfer market and are working on arranging visits with several other notable players. These include Utah cornerback Cameron Calhoun, Liberty offensive tackle Xavior Gray, Louisiana Tech defensive tackle David Blay, and Tulsa running back Lloyd Avant.

The University of Miami’s aggressive pursuit of talent in the transfer portal highlights its commitment to strengthening its roster ahead of the upcoming season. With a mix of experienced players and young prospects, the Hurricanes aim to fill key positional needs and bolster their competitiveness on the field.
