Ryan Reynolds could face beer fight as company looks to steal march on Wrexham plan
Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made no secret of their plans to help Wrexham become established as a global force but they may face some competition in the beer department
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney may have a fight on their hands after an American company filed for legal rights to produce and sell Wrexham-themed beer.
The Hollywood pair have big plans for the North Wales club but it appears that a Pennsylvanian-based brewery may have designs on stealing a march on them. In a bid to gain the rights to sell these light beverages, Master Brew Ventures LLC has filed documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Essentially, they would be permitted to sell ‘beer, ale and lager’ bearing the League Two club’s name to customers if successful in their application. As it stands their trademark application has not yet been assigned to an examiner, meaning that any decision remains outstanding.
The Red Dragons’ co-owners have been hard at work to secure trademarks for beers during their brief but impactful reign at the club. In fact, the big screen legends have already trademarked a host of potential names for beverages with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office.
The series largely forms part of Reynolds and McElhenney’s quest to transform the fortunes of the previously struggling Welsh outfit. Prior to helping to mastermind Wrexham’s return to the EFL after a 15-year absence, the duo had spoken at length about their hopes of bringing success to the club.
Speaking previously, Reynolds told fans: “We want to be at the Racecourse Ground as much as possible – as many games as I can make. We want to be great ambassadors for the club, to introduce the club to the world and be a global force.”
Meanwhile, McElhenney added: “Ryan is much more responsible in his business life, but I get so excited by possibilities and what it could be. I want people to be so excited to watch the rise of the club and the Racecourse.”
