What it was like Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney ………
Wrexham head coach Phil Parkinson has revealed co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are “very involved” in the running of the club following their takeover in 2021. Parkinson, who joined shortly after the takeover, believes the duo are passionate about the club and that the takeover has had a huge impact on the town.
Both Reynolds and McElhenney have been regularly seen at matches following the takeover and have been heavily involved behind the scenes. The pair’s journey, and their involvement in the club, has well been documented in the series Welcome to Wrexham, but has since been verified by Parkinson during an interview with TalkSport.
Speaking on his relationship with the club’s co-owners, Parkinson revealed: “Ryan is going to be over for quite a while these next few months, but Rob and Ryan are very interested in all the players we sign and what team we’re selecting and watch every single game from over in America.
“They are really very involved, but not so involved that they are trying to tell us what team to pick or who to sign. They let us get on with it which is great. They are really enjoying being part of the club.”
Parkinson’s comments come following the team’s dramatic 3-2 win over Salford City at the Racecourse Ground last weekend. The victory came courtesy of two last-minute goals which leaves Wrexham in fifth place in League Two.
When asked if the home atmosphere is still positive following the pair’s takeover, Parkinson added: “The feel good factor in the town in just incredible.
“Wrexham for 15 years had nothing, 15 years of being out of the league, no money in the club and really being left hanging on for survival. And when Rob and Ryan have come in and just lifted the whole area, not just the football club. And on the back of that we’ve had some success getting promotion and it’s a great club to be a part of at the moment.”
