The Duke Blue Devils made a notable move in the transfer portal on Thursday evening as former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Andrel Anthony Jr. announced his decision to join the program. The news was first shared by Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Anthony, originally a three-star recruit from the Class of 2021, began his collegiate football journey with the Michigan Wolverines. As a freshman, the 6-foot-1 receiver made a strong impression, amassing 248 yards and scoring three touchdowns on just 12 receptions. However, after a quiet sophomore campaign in 2022, Anthony opted to transfer to Oklahoma.
His first year with the Sooners showcased his potential once again. Anthony recorded 27 catches for 429 yards in only six games, demonstrating his ability to make a significant impact. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a knee injury sustained during a matchup against the Texas Longhorns. Following his recovery, Anthony managed just one catch in the 2023 season as he struggled to return to form.
At Duke, Anthony is poised to address a major void in the team’s receiving corps. The Blue Devils are losing key contributors, including seniors Jordan Moore and Eli Pancol, who both surpassed 700 receiving yards in 2024 and combined for 16 touchdowns. With their departure, Anthony’s arrival comes at a critical time for the program.
This marks Duke’s third significant addition from the transfer portal in recent weeks. Earlier this month, head coach Manny Diaz brought in Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah and Dartmouth’s standout All-Ivy defensive lineman Josiah Green. These strategic moves reflect Duke’s commitment to building a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
