The Dallas Cowboys are seizing any opportunity for optimism when it comes to their second-year linebacker, DeMarvion Overshown.
Fortunately, there is a bit of encouraging news to report.
Overshown, drafted 90th overall in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft from the University of Texas, has encountered significant obstacles early in his professional football journey. His rookie season was wiped out by an ACL injury suffered during the preseason, but he made an impressive return in 2024. Overshown quickly emerged as a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ defense. Recording 90 tackles, he finished second on the team in that category and produced standout moments, including his first career interception during a Thanksgiving game against the New York Giants. That play, a self-tipped ball he returned for a defensive touchdown, showcased his athleticism and game-changing potential.
However, Overshown’s inspiring comeback hit another roadblock during a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury was another major knee issue, delivering a blow to what had been shaping up as a breakthrough season for the young linebacker.
Surgery to address the injury has already been completed, and there’s a reason for cautious optimism. According to a report from journalist Jordan Schultz, the procedure was deemed a success. Schultz shared that, “Sources: Cowboys standout LB DeMarvion Overshown underwent successful knee surgery with Dr. ElAttrache, and there’s hope he could return by mid-to-late next season — a far more optimistic timeline than initially expected after the diagnosis.”
While the setback is undeniably challenging, Overshown remains committed to maintaining a positive outlook. Following the game where he sustained the injury, he took to social media to reaffirm his faith and determination. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are undoubtedly hopeful that he can overcome this latest hurdle and resume his trajectory as one of their most promising defensive players.
