Kevin Campbell has been left pleasantly surprised by Anthony Gordon’s improvement at Newcastle United following his transfer from Everton.

Last January, the 22-year-old made a controversial transfer from Everton to Newcastle

But the England U21 international is now a much-improved player, with Kevin Campbell stating ‘that ain’t the same player’ he watched at Everton, as he told Football’s 12th Man.

Anthony Gordon had the quality when at Everton, but he just lacked that consistency and final end product.

His age and the fact that he was playing in a poor side played a part in that, but it’s all starting to change now.

“Gordon has improved by no end, by the way,” said Campbell. “That ain’t the same player I saw at Everton. He has improved no end.

Euro 2024

Gordon is playing at the top end of the Premier League table, as well as in the Champions League.

That’s the platform for the player to push for a senior call for England and earn that golden ticket for Euro 2024 next summer.

But given Gareth Southgate’s form, he’ll probably end up picking a player who’s hardly playing and hasn’t scored rather than picking someone at the top of their game.
