Although the Alabama Crimson Tide has an important game coming up on December 31 against the Michigan Wolverines in the ReliaQuest Bowl, much of the recent buzz surrounding the team has focused on the transfer portal rather than the upcoming matchup.

Since the transfer portal opened earlier this month, Alabama has seen a significant number of players announce their intentions to transfer, with many already committing to new teams for the 2025 season. However, not all departures were permanent. Two players who initially entered the portal have since decided to withdraw and return to the Crimson Tide for the next season. Meanwhile, Alabama has also gained momentum in recruiting, securing several key commitments after a relatively quiet start to the transfer window.

As of Sunday, December 22, Alabama has successfully added five new players through the transfer portal. These additions include defensive lineman Kelby Collins from the Florida Gators, cornerback Cameron Calhoun from the Utah Utes, offensive lineman Kam Dewberry from Texas A&M, wide receiver Isaiah Horton from the Miami Hurricanes, and linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green from the Colorado Buffaloes.

According to the 247Sports Team Rankings, Alabama’s transfer portal class is ranked 19th nationally. However, the Crimson Tide has the fewest commits among the teams in the Top 25. Despite the smaller number of additions, Alabama boasts an impressive average player rating of 90.00, the second-highest in the Top 25 rankings, trailing only the Oregon Ducks. Oregon, ranked eighth overall, holds a slightly higher average player rating of 90.33 with six commitments.

In terms of SEC standings, Alabama’s transfer class currently ranks 10th, but it leads the conference in average player rating. The Crimson Tide’s smaller number of commitments is a factor in their overall ranking compared to other SEC teams ahead of them.

It’s likely that Alabama will continue to add more players as the transfer portal remains active. Even with just five commitments so far, the talent level of the group is undeniable, cementing Alabama’s status as one of the most competitive teams in this year’s transfer portal market.

The only question that remains is who else head coach Nick Saban and his staff will bring into the fold in the coming days and weeks as they continue to bolster their roster for the future.
