West Ham United willing to offer £52m to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay

West Ham United are willing to offer £52m to Manchester United to sign Scott McTominay in January, according to a report by Fichajes.net.

Writing on their official website (17 October), the Spanish news outlet report that the Hammers are ready to move for the Scotland international during the winter transfer window.

West Ham had a bid worth £30m rejected in the summer but are now ready to return for his services after he has struggled to break into Erik Ten Hag’s team at Old Trafford so far this season.

West HamWest Ham United would have surprised everyone in the Premier League by being willing to present an offer of 60 million euros (£52m) in the winter market for Scott McTominay, Manchester United’s Scottish midfielder,” they wrote. There’s no doubt that McTominay has been in the headlines recently after his performances for Scotland helped them to earn qualification for Euro 2024, and his two goals in injury time may have saved Ten Hag’s job against Brentford just before the international break.

But West Ham have been in terrific form this season and much of that has come from the performances of our midfield options.

Lucas Paqueta has been one of the stand-out performers in the league along with James Ward-Prowse, while Edson Alvarez has stepped into Declan Rice’s shoes with ease and Tomas Soucek has rediscovered his old form.

So do we really need McTominay? Not really. And do we need him so much that we should splash a near-record amount on him? Definitely not.

If we can get it cheaper then that would be excellent for depth, but we don’t need to push the boat out.
