The 54-year-old was also a coach with England until March as well as being a pundit in football comedy Ted Lasso.

Former Union Berlin manager Henrik Pedersen has also been appointed assistant head coach at the Owls, who are without a league win this season.

Rohl replaced Xisco Munoz at Hillsborough after Wednesday failed to win any of their first 10 Championship games.

He appointed Powell, who won five England caps in his playing career, after previously telling BBC Radio Sheffield he wanted someone who “knows the English culture”.England coach Chris Powell (right) with player Jude Bellingham

“I’m so happy that Chris is now here, he understands football and I’m looking forward to working with him,” Rohl told the club website.

“We met each other working for our national teams. It was immediately a good feeling, I’m feeling a good energy.

“We spoke about getting some experienced guys in. He understands the players, he’s had a great journey and has been at the very top level.”England coach Chris Powell (right) with player Jude Bellingham
