Oldham manager dissatisfied with missing magic
Ardley’s side failed to threaten Oldham on a regular basis, and defensive mistakes allowed the Latics to secure an important three points thanks to goals from Joe Nuttall and Alex Reid.
The York boss was frustrated that his team had not produced in the final third and felt that there was still much work to be done ahead of City’s trip to Woking on Saturday, September 23 (12:30pm).
“When you’re away from home, you have to get down to business.” Ardley stated on BBC Radio York.
“Not making any mistakes, not allowing the crowd to rally behind their team, and we didn’t do that seven minutes in.”
“We don’t attack the first header; we should see the ball out and do our jobs, and we don’t.”
“Then we’re down 1-0.” “I thought we did a lot of good passing back into midfield and into the final third for the majority of the rest of the game.”But I merely told the boys there that we didn’t produce enough.
“They want to play this way because it’s more fun than it used to be, and we can get them into the final third and into those areas.”
“We have to be more expressive; they can’t be shooting off balance when it’s not time to shoot; they have to make the extra pass; they have to be more expressive.”
“We made two costly mistakes, but we controlled the majority of the game in between.”
“Crookesy was absolutely fantastic on Saturday and was fantastic for 90% of today, we don’t do blame culture.”
“I’m not going to punish people for making mistakes; we win and lose as a team.”
“We can defend better than we did on Saturday, with no mistakes, and we can be more daring with our forward play, with our attacking players taking more risks.”
“In the end, I just thought that the players we needed to do their magic in the final third and in their half didn’t do their magic.”
“They rushed things, threw things off balance, didn’t trust each other, didn’t make that final pass, and that’s something we need to work on.”
“I’m two weeks in, and I’m not going to stand here and say there are a lot of positives because we lost the game.”
