Sean Dyche was left angry and baffled by the controversial decision not to award a second yellow card to Ibrahima Konate.Exclusive: Sean Dyche on mission to take Everton up table - 'We're trying to change the whole culture' - Eurosport

The Liverpool defender had already been booked when he was penalised for a trip on Beto as Everton looked to launch a counter attack with the Merseyside derby goalless. With the Blues down to 10 men after Ashley Young had received two yellow cards, there was a degree of expectation Konate would also be shown a red.

Instead, referee Craig Pawson offered him leniency – a decision that led to Dyche getting booked as he contested the call. Speaking after the match, which Everton went on to lose 2-0, Dyche said he could not understand the decision.

He added it was his belief that VAR should be allowed to intervene on such calls and he wrote off the value of any apology he might get as meaningless.Exclusive: Sean Dyche on mission to take Everton up table - 'We're trying to change the whole culture' - Eurosport

Dyche said: “I have no clue. I have asked the referee, he said he didn’t feel it was a bookable offence and he felt that straight away. I don’t know what is then. I would like to think there are a lot of fair minded people in football and people here today would be stunned that is not a second yellow.

“Their manager, fair play, he took him off as quickly as he could. He has seen it and realised he has got away with one – I would imagine that is what he thought, I don’t know. He could not wait to get him off. He knows and we know.”
