Gary Caldwell reflected on Exeter City’s 2-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic at St James Park.

An early strike from Martial Godo and a late Will Aimson own goal saw Exeter beaten in a game where they had plenty of shots and possession, but couldn’t break a down a tough Wigan defence.

“The effort, application and desire was excellent, so I can’t fault that,” Gary said.

“But what I can fault is the little details in the final third and not conceding first, it’s a habit we are starting to get into and you are always chasing the game from that point.”

“We have to penetrate better, instead of going around we have to try and go through teams, I think we had good opportunities to do that and we choose a safer option.

“I thought [Admiral Muskwe] gave everything, he worked extremely hard, he’s not trained a lot, he’s nowhere near 100% fit, I’m delighted he was on the pitch and delighted he got so many minutes.

“We’ve got to keep doing what we are doing, keep believing in the process, be better in the details. Football matches are won and lost on details, early in the season we were keeping clean sheets, we were very hard to break down defensively and to often now we give the opposition a goal start.”
