Northampton Town lost 2-1 away at Bolton Wanderers after conceding twice in the early stages.

Goals by Dion Charles and Randell Williams gave Bolton a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes of the game, and although Sam Hoskins would grab a second half goal back, the Cobblers were unable to cancel out Bolton’s advantage.

Bolton were seeking to recover after a surprise defeat to Carlisle last time out, and their attempts to push on from that were boosted by an 8th minute opener.

It came from Charles, with the Northern Ireland international in the right place to score the rebound after Williams’ drive from outside the box had hit the post.

Bolton continued to be busy, and after Victor Adeboyejo fired wide and Lee Burge denied Williams, the home side would make it 2-0 in the 16th minute.

Williams scored the home side’s second, as he received Aaron Morley’s pass and placed a strike into the back of the net.Northampton Town player ratings from League One defeat to Bolton Wanderers

Northampton did begin to enjoy more of a stable footing in the game, and they had their best chance of the first half when Hoskins had a shot deflected wide.

After the break, George Thomason would be denied by Burge before a mistake at the Bolton back allowed Hoskins a shot that he could only fire at home goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

Hoskins would make it 2-1 with just under 25 minutes to go, as the Cobblers’ captain headed in a Manny Monthe cross to halve the deficit.

The best chance saw Baxter deny Ali Koiki, but Northampton were unable to find a way through that would’ve got them back on level terms.Northampton Town player ratings from League One defeat to Bolton Wanderers
