Jon Newsome has gushed over Georginio Rutter for his “sublime” performances for Leeds United.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds (22 October), the former Elland Road star hailed the Frenchman’s ability to produce despite being frustrating at times.

Rutter got the crucial assist for Crysencio Summerville’s winner in Leeds’ 3-2 win at Carrow Road, adding to his prolific start to life in the Championship.

“The lad had a tough start to his career. Last season I was scratching my head thinking, I don’t see a player there, but he has found his feet and is learning the game.”

Rutter’s influence on Daniel Farke’s new-look Leeds United team has not gone unnoticed. As a ghost in the Premier League, Rutter had a lot to pay back the Elland Road faithful after a poor start to his Leeds career.

However, he is surely paying them back now with consistent excellence in the second division. With two goals and four assists in the league this season, he is slowly starting to justify his £35.5million price tag from Hoffenheim.

Often he can be left wanting and can lose possession in key areas where he could have laid the ball off. His notable performance against Watford caught the attention of all of Elland Road, but his manager had a few words to say at full-time regarding his frequent tricks and skills.

While it paid off against the Hornets, it doesn’t always, but the 21-year-old has plenty of time to iron out these lapses, while his raw talent often shines above little errors.

While he may have crowds pulling their hair out every now and again, he is perhaps the club’s most entertaining player.
