Northampton Town played out a 2-2 draw with their fellow newly promoted side Leyton Orient after the visitors scored a late equaliser.

The Cobblers had come from behind to take the lead, after Rob Hunt had put the visitors in front only for a Sam Hoskins double to put Northampton in front.

Kieron Bowie was sent off but the Cobblers looked set to hold out for the three points until Shaq Forde scored a 96th minute equaliser for the East Londoners.Exeter City's rise to the top of League One has been achieved through fan ownership, smart investment and unity | Football News | Sky Sports

The equaliser denied Northampton a first win in 4 games, as instead they had to settle for a draw.

Northampton had made a bright start against their guests, but weren’t able to find a way through and instead fell behind when Leyton Orient took a 14th minute lead.

Ruel Sotiriou fed the ball for Hunt, who was able to take aim and find the bottom corner for his first Leyton Orient goal.

The visitors nearly made it 2-0 shortly after, with home goalkeeper Lee Burge called into action to deny Idris El Mizouni.

Northampton entered the break behind, but within 10 minutes of the restart, they would find themselves ahead.

Hoskins scored an equaliser when he received a Shaun McWilliams pass and saw a deflected strike creep past away goalkeeper Sol Brynn.

Not long after that, Akin Odimayo was fouled in the box, and Hoskins scored from the penalty spot to put the visitors in front for the first time in the game.Exeter City's rise to the top of League One has been achieved through fan ownership, smart investment and unity | Football News | Sky Sports

But the Cobblers were reduced to ten men just a few moments after taking the lead, as Bowie was shown a straight-red card for an off-the-ball incident spotted by the assistant referee.

This changed the complexion of proceedings, with Northampton beginning to be put largely on the back foot.

Brandon Cooper and Sotiriou both off target from good positions, before the visitors would see a goal disallowed.

Burge then denied Sotiriou and Jordan Brown as the home side began to dream they could eke out a win.

But it was no such luck for Jon Brady’s side, when in the sixth minute of stoppage time, a Jordan Graham cross picked out Forde, who saw a shot find the back of the net despite Burge’s best efforts.

It was hard luck late on for the hosts, whose next assignment sees them travel to Bristol Rovers at the weekend.
