Paul Warne was in good spirits at Moor Farm this morning as he held his press conference ahead of Saturday’s League One clash at Stevenage.

Warne on ‘unbelievable’ Mendez-Laing

Paul Warne says Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is an “unbelievable talent” and feels when he is at his best so too are his Derby team.

Asked how he viewed Mendez-Laing’s form, Warne said: “Probably the same as everybody else really. There have been moments of excellence and moments of disappointment, possibly. When he is on song, he is unplayable. I feel for him because he is the quickest and most exciting player. “But there is expectation of him or for him from me, his team-mates, and everybody. The other thing I know from speaking to other managers is that they all double up on Nat. It makes it really difficult for him to be as amazing as he wants to be. He’s been going on internationals, he’s been travelling a lot and I think when he’s come back it’s fatigued him, hence why I didn’t start him
