Former Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale has opened up on the chances of him ever moving to Arsenal. The 34-year-old retired from football earlier this year and has since spent much of his time playing golf and even tennis despite League Two favourites Wrexham trying to get him to reverse his decision.Gareth Bale

After a glittering playing career spanning over 15 years he finally called it a day shortly after the World Cup in Qatar, ending his short spell in America with Los Angeles FC. Having returned to Tottenham for the 2020/21 season, where he scored 16 goals but failed to hit the heights of his best years, Bale only went on to play 21 more club matches before hanging up his boots.

“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football,” he wrote online in January. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have realised my dream of playing the sport I love. It has truly given me some of the best moments of my life. The highest of highs over 17 seasons, that will be impossible to replicate, no matter what the next chapter has in store for me.”

That was far from the end for Bale though with most of the summer taken up by a comedic back-and-forth with Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McIlhenney as the Hollywood pair made ambitious attemps to try and bring the Welshman back. Their efforts were ultimately without success, though, as the former Real Madrid winger stuck to his guns.

However, Bale has been linked with yet another move back to the Premier League in recent years with ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman calling for a move in the past. Before Bale left Madrid in 2022 he told the Seaman Says podcast:“I was going to say Arsenal, but I just realised he [Bale] played for Tottenham. I would take him, I would take him all day long.

“He’s a quality player, there’s no doubt about that. He’ll come back and hopefully, he’ll play in the Premier League. Quality like that is good to see, especially with his free-kicks. It’s not just his free-kicks, it’s his delivery as well, the corners and the free-kicks he crosses in. It’s like James Ward-Prowse.”

Bale, like Eden Hazard earlier this month, shocked many with his decision to retire at a relatively young age and therefore continues to field plenty of questions around a potential return to the game. As he takes yet another different step to life outside of football, Bale was part of a star-studded season opener on Sky’s A League of their Own.Gareth Bale

Featuring alongside comedian Romesh Ranganathan, Micah Richards, Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott, Bale was part of the cast for the first episode of season nine and provided plenty of memorable moments. One specific interaction caught the eye though with Bale being asked if he would ever consider joining Arsenal.

“No. Never. Impossible,” he responded. Bale had previously admitted that he had a soft spot Gunners as a kid. “I used to watch Arsenal a lot and I really enjoyed watching people like [Thierry] Henry,” he said during his time in Spain.Gareth Bale

“I used to like watching Dennis Bergkamp as well. They had a great team – Tottenham fans won’t be happy that I am holding this! [an Arsenal shirt with Henry’s name on].”
