Everton manager Sean Dyche believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now better than ever after returning to fitness and reaching 50 Premier League goals for the club.

The 26-year-old’s fourth goal of the season gave the Blues a 1-0 win at West Ham United and ensured he became just the fourth player to net 50 times for the club in the Premier League after Romelu Lukaku (68), Duncan Ferguson (60) and Tim Cahill (56).

Dyche said: “Absolutely it’s a great milestone for Dom. Since he’s come back to fitness he’s looked stronger, he’s looked sharper and we hope it continues to pay him back.

“It’s a real good marker for him. To get to that number is really pleasing for him and for us.”

The Everton manager believes that Calvert-Lewin’s effort was just one of several pleasing elements for him in his team’s display. “I think it’s a fine finish, he also hits the bar and the keeper makes a great save from Douc (Abdoulaye Doucoure) as well so there are some big moments that didn’t quite go for us but we saw it through. It would be remiss of me not to mention Jordan (Pickford) who played very well in the second half, after in the first half I thought we kept him very well protected, and the two centre-halves were immense and I think they have been all season, I think they’ve been very good.

“Jarrad (Branthwaite) continues to learn and to find that Premier League way. We’re not over-coaching him, we’re letting him go a little bit but he’s doing a very good job.

“The team in front of that and the belief in what we’re trying to achieve, the belief in change because I’ve said endlessly we’ve got to change the story, don’t wait for anyone else to change it, there are signs that we’re beginning to do that. I think we’re improving from last season and that was my first marker when asked about it, I said: ‘I want to improve, I want to be better than last season,’ and I think there are clear signs of that.”
