‘Pray that I don’t,’ says Dominik Szoboszlai to Bournemouth defender before of Liverpool meeting.
Livwerpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has set out the team’s aims for the season and delivered a message ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth.
Dominik Szoboszlai has spoken about his perfect start at Liverpool and ultimate aims for the season – and delivered a message to a player he will be coming up against tonight.
The all-action midfielder has been an instant hit for the Reds since his move from RB Leipzig. Szoboszlai has registered two goals and assists apiece across his first 13 games at Anfield but his influence on the team has been far greater than these statistics would suggest.
The 23-year-old has been the focal point of Jurgen Klopp’s revamped midfield and appears to be tailor-made for Liverpool’s playing style. His performances have been a key reason why the Reds have lost just once so far this season, winning seven of their 10 Premier League games to set up a possible title challenge.

Szoboszlai’s displays have earned early comparisons to Steven Gerrard, complete with inheriting the number eight shirt. However, the Hungary international has insisted that he will be forging his own path, rather than seeking to emulate Gerrard.
“I’ve seen these articles, obviously it’s flattering to be compared to one of the club’s legends, but as I’ve said before, I don’t want to be Steven Gerrard,” Szoboszlai told Hungarian outlet Sportal. “I will never be like him, we have two different life paths. I want to go my own way, but if I have a career like his, I will hardly be unhappy at the end of my career.”
Liverpool’s start to the season has placed them three points off top spot after 10 games and the midfielder is confident that the Reds will remain part of the title race. Despite missing out on Champions League football last term, Szoboszlai insisted no-one at the club should not settle for less, when asked if Liverpool were contenders for the Premier League trophy.
“I don’t say it out of arrogance, but yes,” he explained. “This may sound strange at the end of October, but due to the history of the club, there is no other answer. Liverpool go all season wanting to win the Premier League.
