Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool an attractive club for transfers even without Champions League football | Football News | Sky Sports

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp admitted his side needed some “luck” to edge past Cherries, in what he described as a “top, top cup game”.

Cherries were on top, pushing to take the lead after Justin Kluivert had cancelled out Cody Gakpo’s opener.

But it was at that moment Liverpool pounced, going back in front as substitutes Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez combined, the latter curling home a sumptuous winner.Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool an attractive club for transfers even without Champions League football | Football News | Sky Sports

Reflecting on the contest, Klopp said: “It was a top, top cup game.

“It’s all about winning, it’s all about getting through.

“The good thing is I don’t have to speak about the circumstances, because everybody saw it. It was really difficult, for both teams obviously.

“In the first half we could’ve scored more goals, we didn’t.

“Then in the second half we obviously realised it could’ve been a good idea to score more goals, because the wind changed the game again in the second half.

“We scored our second goal, a wonderful goal, and then we fought extremely hard.

“But it’s all about attitude in these moments.”

He added: “Both teams obviously wanted it. Everybody can expect it from the home team, but I saw my team as well, how hard we really wanted it.

“I’m really happy about that. It was a top cup game in strange, strange circumstances.”

Storm Ciaran swept in and had an impact on the game, the wind leading to both sides netting from set-pieces and making conditions difficult to play.

“We knew about the weather because we had to talk about it for three or four days, because of how we could travel,” said Klopp.

“It was clear it would be really stormy and windy. So we knew it, but it’s really different to then play football in it. But the boys took it completely.

“It was a difficult game. Bournemouth did really well, they had their moments.

“But in life and in football, from time to time, you need luck and for sure in one or two moments Bournemouth could have finished off their situations a little bit better.

“But it is an inch on the foot, not more.Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool an attractive club for transfers even without Champions League football | Football News | Sky Sports

“Then Darwin shows his class and puts the game pretty much to bed for us.

“It is an unbelievable goal. We had much bigger chances in the whole game, five, six or seven, but that was the goal we needed.”

Liverpool progressed through to the quarter-finals, where they will host West Ham United next month
