Carlos Corberan believes that Pipa made ‘an important step’ as he started his first West Brom game in Monday night’s 2-0 victory over Coventry City at the CBS Arena. Corberan handed his compatriot a full debut after almost two months at the club and with only three substitute appearances to his name.

Corberan also showered praise on centre half Cedric Kipre, who by being involved surprised many after he limped off less than a week earlier in the win over QPR, with Corberan at the time admitting we might not see him again for perhaps months. Mercifully, scan results confirmed that the complaint wasn’t anything like as severe as was first feared.
, for his part, fared well in place of regular right wing-back Darnell Furlong and, at a time when Albion aren’t blessed with an embarrassment of senior options available to Corberan because of various injuries suffered, it was reassuring to know that one of the existing understudies could be called upon to perform when asked.
Corberan confirmed that Pipa, who handed his manager a decision to make ahead of the welcoming of Hull City to The Hawthorns this weekend, started ahead of Furlong because of his ability to attack teams directly, and deep into the opposing territory and reasoned that his 81-minute run-out was a positive move in the right direction.
“I wanted to play with the wing-backs that could be high up the pitch and feeling comfortable with the ball and to attack the sides,” Corberan explained. “I know Furlong plays more comfortable when he is more between the lines and not as high, because for me he is excellent attacking inside or wide, more in between.
