Adil Aouchiche and Eliezer Mayenda will travel to Swansea City with Sunderland this weekend – but Tony Mowbray has hinted they are unlikely to figure at the Liberty Stadium. French midfielder Aouchiche has sat out the last two games with a groin problem but has now resumed training.

Mayenda has yet to make his debut after picking up a hamstring injury immediately after his summer move to Wearside and the Spanish striker was expected to be on the bench against Norwich City last weekend but was left out as a precaution after feeling some discomfort with the injury on the eve of the game. The next step for Mayenda would be to get some game time for the U21s but the long coach journey to Southampton for tomorrow’s Premier League 2 match could have been counter-productive, and Mowbray has therefore decided to take him on the flight to Swansea to help integrate him into the first-team group.

“I don’t think [anyone will be back at Swansea],” said Mowbray. “We’ve had Eliezer Mayenda training with us, but he’s obviously only had one ninety-minute game in a bounce match against Hibs [at the beginning of last week].Sunderland's Adil Aouchiche pictured in action against Cardiff City

“There’s a few lads who have travelled to Southampton to play in the U21s but Eliezer is going to come with us to Swansea.
