John Textor has now revealed that he would like Wesley to join Crystal Palace from Flamengo.

The Crystal Palace co-owner made the comment when speaking to ESPN.

Well, the American also co-owns Botafogo in Brazil, and has previously used his connections in South America to help Crystal Palace sign Matheus Franca.

Now, Textor is aiming to bring another Brazilian to Selhurst Park in Wesley.

The 58-year-old said: “I like Wesley, he’s a good boy. I want him at Crystal Palace.”

Textor was speaking before watching his Botafogo side lose 4-3 to Palmeiras, a game which resulted in the American having a public outburst at the quality of refereeing on display.

Crystal Palace fans are surely wondering – who is Wesley?

It remains to be seen if Textor was serious about wanting Wesley at Crystal Palace.

Nevertheless, his comment has surely made a number of fans curious about who the South American is exactly, so let’s take a look.

For a start, Wesley is a right-back, which will presumably make a number of supporters hope for the deal to happen, given Roy Hodgson’s lack of quality options in that area.

He is also just 20 years of age, so if a move did materialise, he would represent a long-term option for the right-back department.

Wesley has made 50 appearances so far this season for Flamengo, scoring two goals while also providing one assist.

Interestingly, the Flamengo No.43 can also play as a right-winger, making four appearances in that position this term.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Wesley’s name – Textor might have only been joking around, but after bringing Franca to Crystal Palace, the American knows how to manoeuvre the South American market.
