Leeds UnitedThe talented gem’s popularity ‘continues to skyrocket,’ Former Leeds United star ‘cut a helpless figure’

Georginio Rutter’s popularity with Leeds United fans “continues to soar” after his goal against Leicester City, according to the Daily Mail’s Ross Heppenstall.

The striker netted the only goal of the game as the Whites defeated the Foxes 1-0 in the Championship.

Rutter found the back of the net in the 58th minute of the encounter at the King Power Stadium to halt Leicester’s nine-match winning run.

“That it was Georginio Rutter who should deliver the killer blow, firing home from close range in the 58th minute, was apt,” Heppenstall wrote for the Daily Mail (3 November).

“For he has come to symbolise the new chapter being patiently written by Farke and his popularity with Leeds fans continues to soar.

“The 21-year-old Frenchman cut a hapless figure after arriving in January from Hoffenheim for a club-record £35.5million.”

Major turnaround

There was plenty of expectation on the young shoulders of Rutter when he arrived at Elland Road in January. But he definitely didn’t live up to that expectation, with the striker struggling massively in the Premier League as the Whites were relegated to the Championship.

He took a lot of blame even though the entire squad was underperforming, with the constant turnaround in the dugout also a major issue.

But to Rutter’s credit, he has turned his Leeds career around dramatically, and is really impressing under Daniel Farke.

It may be the manager or indeed the drop down to the Championship that has resulted in the forward impressing, but all connected with the club are simply hoping that he can keep up his displays in the final third.

He was key as the Whites secured a superb victory away to the high-flying Foxes, in what was undoubtedly the club’s most difficult test of the season so far before kick-off.
